Handled With Care provides services that offer developmentally appropriate curriculum, and we strive to enhance social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth in our children. Our program fosters curiosity, creativity, and self-esteem by considering their ability.
(Teaching strategies) We provide a rich learning environment with curriculum that is developmentally *appropriate to the specific ages in each classroom. We have a flexible daily routine that allows children to advance at their own pace.
Terence A. Merritt was born in Waycross, GA, and raised in St. Petersburg, FL. Once labeled a slow learner in elementary school, he began excelling academically after turning to faith, eventually becoming the first black valedictorian of his high school and the top graduating male in Pinellas County. He earned a full scholarship to Morehouse College, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude.
Dr. Merritt pursued medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, also on a full scholarship, and specialized in Psychiatry. He worked in medical management for a leading pharmaceutical company.
Raised attending Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ (COGIC), he accepted the call to ministry at Morehouse, starting “Abundant LIFE,” a Bible study for students. Ordained in the COGIC during medical school, he has ministered nationally and internationally, also conducting health seminars.
Dr. Merritt served the COGIC in Brazil as Superintendent of the Fifth District, overseeing significant church growth. In 2010, he established LIFE Church in Atlanta, which quickly grew, acquiring a 25,000 square foot facility in 2013. LIFE Church has welcomed over 1,000 members and offers various community ministries.
In addition to pastoring, Dr. Merritt serves in the COGIC Jurisdiction of North Central Georgia as an Administrative Assistant and District Superintendent. He has been inducted into the MLK Board of Preachers of Morehouse College and received the LIFEtime Achievement Award from President Barack Obama in 2016.
Tameka Barnett is a dedicated Early Childhood Educator with over 20 years of experience in nurturing young minds and fostering early development. Her journey in education began with a strong academic foundation, earning both an Associate and Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education with honors.
Throughout her career, Tameka has been passionate about creating enriching learning environments that cater to the unique needs of young children. Her approach combines educational theory with practical, hands-on methods to stimulate cognitive, social, and emotional growth in her students.
Tameka’s commitment to excellence is evident in her role as a substitute teacher for Henry County Schools. Here, she has demonstrated versatility and adaptability, stepping into various classroom settings to ensure continuity of learning and support for both students and fellow educators.
Her leadership and expertise have positively impacted countless young learners, families, and colleagues throughout her career. Tameka Barnett continues to inspire and empower future generations through her unwavering dedication to early childhood education and her passion for shaping young minds.
